About 300 years of Castle History
Muromachi Shogunate Period (14C- 16C)
-
1349: The castle was built by Atsunori Bessho, a member of the Akamatsu clan, the leading feudal lords in the Harima area
-
1441: Kakitsu Rebellion, the Akamatsu clan killed the sixth shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate and rebelled, but were destroyed by the Shogunate forces. The Rikan Castle was confiscated by the Shogunate

1446: Harusada Bessho retook the castle.
Warring States Period (16C)
-
1578: The castle was attacked by Katsuhisa Amago and fell.

The Amago clan was defeted by Mouri clan.
-
The castle was took by Naoie Ukita, of Mouri clan.

1600:Yoshiyuki Ikeda, a nephew of famous feudal lord of Himej Castle,Terumasa Ikeda, became the lord of Hirafuku.

Yoshiyuki had renovated Rikan Castle including a three-story keep and constructed a castle town in five years.

After its completion, the keep was torn down by order ofTerumasa, who feared that the Tokugawa Shogunate would beala rmed by the solid keep.

Himeji Castle

Terumasa Ikeda, Lord of Himeji Castle
Edo Shogunate Period (17C- 19C)
-
1609: Yoshiyuki left Hirafuku for Bizen domain
-
1615: Teruoki Ikeda, Terumasa's sixth son, became the lord of the Hirafuku domain.
-
1631: Teruoki became the lord of Ako domain and left Hirafuku.
-
The castle is closed along with the abolition of the Hirafuk domain
-
From then on, Hirafuku town became the domain of the Matsudaira clan, a shogunal retainer, and a deputy governor had ruled this area over 230 years during Edo Shogunate Period to the modern Meiji era (19C).
